Wairēinga/Bridal Veil Falls

Short easy walk | 20 minutes one way | Waikato

This a short track that offers three beautiful views of the Bridal Veil Falls - from above, the middle and the bottom of the falls. If you want to head to the middle and lower viewing platforms then there are a fair amount of stairs involved, but for those just wanting a very short walk and view of the Falls from the top, this is also a great option.

The start of the track is a flat, wide path that drops down into a native bush forest and follows the stream along towards the start of the Falls. There are picnic tables and a toilet right near the start of the track and opportunity to dip your toes in the water on a warm day at the start of end of your walk.

After approximately 5-10 minutes (depending on your pace) you arrive at the first viewing platform. You can either head left and this will take you to the top of the Falls which gives you a good sense of the power of the water as it rushes past directly next to you. You also get a view out over the bush and into the valley. Alternatively, if you turn right you arrive at the platform where the picture below was taken. This gives you a view of the whole falls. In the morning it is likely to still be partially shaded (as below) but in the afternoon and evening the Falls should be in full light.

From the top platform the track continues down the first set of steps to the middle viewing platform. This is my favourite view of the Falls with the gap in the vegetation framing the dramatic falls perfectly to give you the view captured in the picture below. It is only around 5 minutes down to this platform from the upper platform.

The steps continue down for another 10 minutes or so from there to the bottom of the falls. This also offers great views and there are a few different areas to sit and enjoy the scenery before returning via the same track on the way back up to the car park.
